WESTERN CAPE – Vigilance by police deployed along the N2 highway ensured that a 31 year old suspect got his day in court when he appeared on Thursday, 04 August 2022 in the Knysna magistrates’ court following the confiscation of drugs with an estimated street value of R180 000 on a passenger bus.

On Tuesday, 02 August 2022 at about 16:30 members of the Rural Flying Squad and Knysna Crime Prevention unit were strategically placed along the N2 highway outside Sedgefield where they pulled over the bus. A thorough search of the vehicle ensued when the vigilant members found dagga concealed in a suitcase in the luggage compartment. Investigation on scene positively linked the consignment with a passenger on board. He was arrested and the find subsequently confiscated.

The accused, Ibrahim Job (31), appeared in the Knysna Magistrates’ court on a charge of dealing in drugs. This matter was postponed to Friday, 05 August 2022 for legal representation.

In an unrelated matter, Rural Flying Squad members arrested two suspects on the N2 highway near Sedgefield on Wednesday, 03 August 2022 after stolen items were found in their possessions.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the members patrolled the highway when they received an alert about four men who entered a pharmacy. They allegedly took medicinal capsules from the shelves and fled the scene in a Toyota Corolla. This vehicle was later spotted on the highway en-route to Mossel Bay where it was pulled over. A search of the vehicle ensued and the members found the mentioned drugs with an estimated valued of R3780 in their possession. The members arrested the two occupants of the vehicle.

The pair who remains in police custody are expected to appear in the local court on Friday, 05 August 2022 on a charge of possession of stolen property each.

These arrests forms part of continued efforts by police deployed to curb the trafficking of illicit goods along highways of this province.
