POTCHEFSTROOM – The South African Police Service in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District under the command of Major General DM Mmolawa launched the Spiritual Crime Prevention Forum on Thursday, 28 July 2022 in Mahikeng, TTA assembly hall.

Chaplain (Warrant Officer) TN Mogamisi opened the event officially with a word of encouragement and prayer, followed by Reverend M Modutlwa conducting the Candle lighting ceremony. Rev Modutlwa highlighted the Covid-19, HIV/AIDS issues, as well as the tragedy which took place in the Eastern Cape province where 21 children lost their lives after visiting a tavern.

The District Commissioner, Major General Mmolawa welcomed attendees at the event and outlined the purpose of the day. She emphasized that it is very imperative to launch this forum in the district in order to partner with spiritual leaders who will assist in spiritual warfare and added that the church is the foundation, that the war of spiritual forces will be eradicated by this forum. ‘Our consciousness in the society is under siege, fathers are raping daughters and sons are raping mothers ‘ the District Commissioner concluded.

Bishop D Matebesi, the Chairperson of the Spiritual Crime Prevention Forum in the Province addressed the launch. He said SAPS adopted the Spiritual Crime Prevention concept as one of the key objectives to fight crime. The Bishop said the aim of this programme is to deal with the mindset of individuals as well as providing partnership to SAPS in the fight against crime. Finally he urged for a healthy working relationship between the organization and the structure. He declared the Spiritual Crime Prevention Forum launched in the district and introduced them to the audience.

Reverend ET Khumalo, the Chairperson of the structure in the district accepted the call of duty. He discouraged the idea of people taking the law in their hands and said families must stop hiding criminals in their homes.

Henceforth Warrant Officer TJ Motiki from Family Violence and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, made a presentation on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF).
