WESTERN CAPE – Safer Festive Season operations take aim at firearms

WESTERN CAPE – Safer Festive Season operations conducted throughout the province, are directed at serious and violent crimes and firearms in the wrong hands are what we are after. During the early hours of yesterday morning, 12 December 2020, a suspect in his twenties was arrested in Lingelethu West for being in possession of a 9mm Glock and one round of ammunition. Our members were busy with crime prevention duties when they were alerted to two suspicious individuals in Zakhele Street, who started to run upon police arrival. One was arrested and he is expected to make his court appearance in Khayelitsha tomorrow, 14 December 2020.

In an unrelated intervention, a 35-year-old suspect was arrested during the early hours of this morning, in Hex Crescent Manenberg for being in possession of a 9mm pistol. This firearm was traced back to Vredendal where it was registered to a 75-year-old female who passed on in 2017. The circumstances are being investigated and the suspect is expected to make his court appearance in Athlone once he has been charged.
