Elderly Voter Collapses And Dies At A Voting Station. The matter was publicised by Sy Mamabolo, the CEO of IEC, at a news conference yesterday (Wednesday).

An old woman dies at the one of the Pretoria voting stations. The matter was publicised by Sy Mamabolo, the CEO of IEC, at a news conference yesterday (Wednesday). The IEC CEO says that the organisation obviously had issues such as the officials being late for work and the voting material also being late. He says the issues were fixed by 9am yesterday.

Sy Mamabolo says, “The IEC is sad to report the death of a deputy presiding officer in the Easern Cape due to illness overnight and extends its condolences to the family. The commission also received reports of an elderly voter who apparently died in a voting stating in Elandspoort, in Tshwane, today. Accordingly, we express our condolences to the family.”

Mamabolo says the workers at the Eastern Cape were in a car accident but they were not hurt. The IEC says that there was a good voter appearance at the voting stations. Some of the voters came in the early hours of the morning. Even though there was a good voter appearance, some of the voters had an issue at some polling areas because of strikes in the specific places.

The IEC CEO says, “By 11:30am, only 17 voting stations remained unopened due to access challenges. Fourteen of these are on the southern coast of KwaZulu-Natal. The commission is working closely with various government departments to open these stations as soon as possible.” Sy Mamabolo says that he knows about the people who tried removing the ink on their thumbs so that they can vote twice. The IEC CEO says the people going against the procedure of election will be prosecuted for 10 years.
