Denis Sassou Nguesso has been the president of Congo-Brazaville since 1997. The President’s fans had fought with the fans of Yhombi-Opango in Owando. The security forces went to his house to look for the two men who were allegedly started the fight. There was then a scuffle between his people and the security forces, this led to the second civil war in Congo-Brazaville. In 2002 he got 90% of the election votes when the two biggest oppositions were not allowed to be in the elections. His only opponent pulled out of the race. He has been in power for 21 years.
