The SABC 1 soapie’s ‘Skeem Saam’ actress, Pebetsi Matlaila was infuriated by a cashier’s inappropriate remarks about her daughter’s body size. The actress says that when she went out to go do some shopping with her daughter, a cashier apparently called her 6-year-old daughter fat. The event supposedly resulted in her replying to the cashier in a manner that let the cashier know that she was annoyed. She went on her Instagram to let people know about the incident.
“I’m absolutely livid right now. Like I’m absolutely annoyed right now,” says the ‘Skeem Saam’ actress. She went on to say that the cashier was somehow trying to get her attention by body shaming her child. She went on to speak about how she schooled the woman about body shaming a child at that young age. Pebetsi Matlaila says,“The she says, “Oh she’s so fat.” Did I get so pissed at her? First of all can you let a child be a child. Can a child not worry about her weight at such a young age, a tender age like that. You gonna go around calling a child names like that?”
She went on to say how that could ruin a child’s self-esteem; she went on to say that the cashier said the statement in front of her child. The actress says, “Something so hectic that could kill a child’s self-esteem…in front of her even? If you have nothing nice to say, the just shut the f up!” She captioned the video with what her mother used to say to her.
“My mother used to tell me “Pebetsi, it’s not a beautiful body that will get you far in life, what will get you far is a beautiful heart…,” says Pebetsi Matlaila. Most of her fans were fully supporting her, agreeing that the cashier was in the wrong for saying that.
