The South African Police Service in Limpopo had yesterday on Wednesday 09 June 2021, hosted the Policing Nomics session that was presented by Brigadier (Dr) Reddy from the National Head Office. The session was held at Gateway Airport, Polokwane.
The first session was earmarked for the Saps Provincial Senior Management and Colonels led by the Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, District Commissioners, District Coordinators and Brigadier Station Commanders.
Brigadier (Dr) Reddy started his four hour presentation by reflecting on his background, including his upbringing and the conditions he faced as a child, scholar until he graduated. This was used as an ice-breaker before the real presentation.
The presentation was based on the National Commissioner’s new concept of Policing Nomics which is currently in the consultation phase.
Some of the areas that were covered during the presentation included the Strategic Policing Reform, leadership and types of leadership, the nine innovation roles: Revolutionary innovator, evangelist, connector, trouble shooter, magic maker, conscript, customer champion and Judge. The presentation also included the Integrated Performance Management Matrix which has four pillars – Exonomy, Effectiveness, Efficiency and Transparency.
The end game entails the sustainability of Policing in South Africa at the time of severe fiscal constraints to ensure that the community are served and feel safe. Overall, the Integrated Resource Planning and Implementation, Cost saving measures, Sustainable policing including Anti-Corruption and Enhancement of SAPS Brand.
At the end of his presentation, Brigadier (Dr) Reddy defined Policing Nomics as the study of policing methodology and practice through the lens of modern economics, innovation and creativity. (Reddy, 2021).
The session will continue tomorrow on Thursday 10 June 2021 at the same venue for the Station Commanders, Vispol and Detective Commanders across the Province.
