SA Furious Over Ill Treatment Of Elderly Lady At Mamelodi Hospital. A video recording and pictures of a 76-year-old woman made rounds on the internet.

A video recording and pictures of a 76-year-old woman made rounds on the internet. Martha Marais was tied to a bench on a cold floor on Tuesday night by the staff in the Mamelodi Hospital. The nurses of the hospital supposedly tied her hands behind her back on the cold floor, it was supposedly voluntarily.

The video footage shows her daughter screaming at one of the employees asking him why they did this to her mother. The family members also said that the woman was in serious pain at the time when she came to the hospital. She was sent to the Mamelodi Hospital by the Eersterust Hospital because they saw her matter as an urgent one.

Tweeps were furious over the way they treated the old lady. One tweep says, “This is what will happen to your mother if you take her to Mamelodi Hospital. She will get tied under a bench and not get any attention from the staff there. This really hit home because old people are fragile. Just look what they did to this lady.” One tweep says she is disgusted by what the hospital did to the 76-year-old woman.

The tweep says, “This is how our people are being (treated) at Mamelodi Hospital…auntie Martha is 76years old and she is being treated like a dog…I’m disgusted.” One tweep says, “This is inhumane. Dag hospital in Mamelodi. How do you treat elderly people like this? I’m in tears.” Medical officials say that they are appalled by the action that the nursing department at Mamelodi Hospital took.

The officials have started examining who was involved in the matter. The Gauteng Department of Health says, “It is a matter that we will follow up, with keen interest, to ensure that it doesn’t happen again in any of our public health facilities.”

Warning! The Video Is Not For Sensitive Viewers.
