PORT ELIZABETH – Quick response by SAPS members resulted in the arrest of two suspects aged 28 and 37 and the recovery of two firearms and ammunition.

It is alleged that on Saturday 03 October 2020, at approximately 13:00 at the corner of Lavinia and Cawood Street, North End the complainant (36) who is working as a security guard was walking towards his vehicle when he was confronted by two suspects armed with firearms. The suspects took the firearm of the guard and fled on foot.  The guard immediately got into his vehicle and chase after the suspects. The guard confronted the suspects in Diaz Road, Millard Grange, where they fired shots at the guard. The guard got out of his vehicle and chased the one suspect on foot and managed to overpower him and seized the firearm of the suspects.

Various SAPS units responded to the complaint, Sgt Oosthuizen and his K9 Max searched the area and in Eyre street, Millard Grange after receiving information that the suspects jumped several walls to avoid arrest Max apprehended the second suspect. The suspect dropped the firearm of the guard and Max continued searching the area and recovered a second magazine.

Both suspects were detained on charges of armed robbery, illegal possession of firearm and ammunition. The serial number of the one firearm was filed off and will be send to ballistics for testing.  The suspects will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate Court during the week.
