POLOKWANE – Over a thousand suspects arrested during joint operations conducted across Limpopo Province

POLOKWANE – A total of six hundred and seventeen (617) undocumented persons are amongst one thousand eight hundred and forty nine (1849) suspects aged between 23 and 52 apprehended for various offences including rape, murder, business robbery, possession of illicit cigarettes, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, etc, during the joint operations which were conducted across the Province until this morning.

The operations comprised of the Crime Prevention Unit members, K9 Unit, the Crime Intelligence Unit, Border Policing, the Limpopo Highway Patrol Team (LHP) and the Detectives with the support from the Provincial and Municipal Traffic officers, were conducted through activities including stop and searches, road blocks and tracing of wanted suspects which covered all the Districts and the Beitbridge Port of Entry, etc.

The items confiscated during these operations include the following:

16 firearms, 01 rifle, 06 suspected stolen motor vehicles, 10 cell phones, counterfeit cigarettes, dangerous weapons, cash, drugs and liquor.

In addition, 2031 fines were issued for contravention of the Road Traffic Act, 68 Shebeens were closed, 34575 persons were searched and 20052 motor vehicles were searched.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Ledwaba has praised members of the Police Service for their continuous commitment in the fight against all criminal activities in the province.

The origin of some of the recovered items like motor vehicles and firearms, will still be determined by the ongoing Police investigations
