Gauteng Provincial Taxi Violence Task Team and Mamelodi East Crime Prevention Unit seized four firearms and arrested four men suspected to be behind taxi violence in Mamelodi.
The team received information of armed suspects that are threatening taxi operators around Mamelodi area. A suspicious looking grey Mercedes Benz without number plates and a silver Toyota Corolla were spotted on Tsamaya Road and police pulled off both vehicles.
Upon searching the vehicles and occupants, police recovered four firearms which includes rifles and handguns, fully loaded with ammunition. Four suspects were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Police are further questioning these suspects as they may be linked to other several incidents of taxi violence in the province. Firearms will be taken for ballistic tests to establish if they have not been used in the commission of crimes.
