Police confiscates dagga worth R200 000 along N-1 – Western Cape

The proliferation and eradication of Drugs remain high priority in the Western Cape, especially with the strategic deployment of members on our main entry and exit routes, again yielded excellent result. This was evident when members attached to the Provincial Rural Flying squad confiscated bags of dagga weighing more than 24kg that is worth approximately R200 000.00 along the N-1 yesterday, Wednesday, 14 July 2021.

Yesterday at about 04:45, early morning, members whilst conducting stop and search and crime prevention patrols on the N-1, pulled over a Nissan Micro with two (2) occupants’ en-route to Cape Town. The occupants then indicated that they were on their way to attend a funeral in Cape Town. However, later the same day at about 11:50 the members spotted the same vehicle with the two occupants passing them, travelling in the opposite direction from Laingsburg towards Beaufort-West.  Members gave chase but the driver of the Micra sped off in an attempt to evade being pull over.

Members in pursue managed to pull over the vehicle approximately 60km further and upon searching found two suite cases with bags concealing dagga in the boot of the vehicle. The two were arrested on the spot and the dagga with an estimated value of R200 000.00 was confiscated.

The two suspects, aged 38 and 24 respectively, are scheduled to appear in the Laingsburg Magistrates’ court on Monday, 19 July 2021 once they had been charged with dealing alternatively Possession of drugs (Dagga).

Provincial Police management in the Western Cape has lauded the members of the Rural Flying Squad for their valiant efforts to root out and eradicate the proliferation of drugs along our main entry and exit routes.
