Police arrested five suspects in unrelated incidents and confiscated a large quantity of drugs - Western Cape

The recent reintroduction of the Rural Flying Squad in the Southern Cape paid dividends when members strategically deployed at entry and exit points of the Western Cape arrested five suspects in unrelated incidents and confiscated a large quantity of drugs.

The members conducted a vehicle check point on the N2 highway at Plettenberg Bay earlier today when they stopped a silver Mazda. A search of the vehicle ensued when they discovered 2,6 kilogram of dagga stashed amongst the luggage. The drugs was positively linked to one of the occupants of the vehicle. The police arrested a 27-year-old passenger. He is facing a charge of possession of drugs and will appear in court once charged.

Meanwhile, last night, 3 July 2021 at about 21:20 these members were conducting lockdown compliance duties on the N9 when they pounced on a vehicle which was en-route to Oudtshoorn. Upon searching the vehicle the members found 25 kilogram of dagga inside. A further search of the vehicle resulted in the confiscation of an undisclosed amount of cash, allegedly proceeds of the illicit drug trade.

The police arrested the four occupants of the vehicle on a charge of dealing in drugs each. The foursome remains in custody. They are scheduled to appear in the Oudtshoorn Magistrates’ court on Monday, 05 July 2021 on mentioned charge.

Western Cape police management applauded these members for their efforts to eradicate drug trafficking and their commitment to rid communities of drugs.
