Netcare 911 responded to reports of a collision on the R620 Marine Drive in Uvongo on the KZN South Coast.
Reports from the scene indicate that the driver of a light motor vehicle lost control resulting in the car leaving the bridge landing in the St Michael’s River below.
Lifeguards managed to pull the occupant an adult female from the submerged car however upon assessment the patient showed no signs of life and was declared deceased.
The SAPS Search and Rescue was called to the scene to secure the vehicle via a winch.
Police divers have initiated a search for more bodies that could possibly still be submerged.
