Mpumalanga robbers arrested after showing off gun on social media

Three suspects Bigboy Sibande, Thulani Dumisa and Tanderayi Sithole, aged between 31 and 45, were remanded in custody after they briefly appeared before the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court, yesterday, 18 March 2019, on charges of housebreaking and theft.

They appeared following their arrest, after police received information about a video that was doing the rounds on social media, where one of the suspects, Bigboy Sibande was captured in possession of a firearm. The police then followed that up and went to Sibande’s house where they searched the house and recovered a firearm which led to his brother and girlfriend being taken in for questioning as a result. Upon hearing the news Sibande rushed to the police station and disclosed to the police that the firearm actually belonged to him.

A further probe into the matter revealed that Sibande together with his accomplices Dumisa and Tanderayi had allegedly broken into a house on a farm at Loskop Dam, Middelburg, on 15 March 2018 where they stole the firearm, home theatre sound system, a tablet, computers, cellphones, shoes and bags, which have all been recovered. It further transpired that Tanderayi was employed by the employer where the items were stolen.

The suspects were remanded in custody and the case postponed to 25 March 2019, for a formal bail application.

The police in Mpumalanga welcomed the arrest and urged community members to continue working closely with the police for the safety of the country.
