Crime has been a huge thing in South Africa within the past year. Some people don’t know how they would react if they were to be robbed. One man chose to do the one thing that might save his life if he were to be robbed. The man says that his girlfriend woke him up when she heard a noise. However, the man chose his life over the objects that were in the house.
“My girlfriend heard a noise in the lounge and woke me up to go check it out. Because apparently my life doesn’t matter,” says the man. The man was commenting about his situation on the famous “O jewa ke eng?” post by Keabetswe Jan. Twitter reacted to the post. Some tweeps felt as if it wa also the woman’s responsibility to go check out why there were sounds coming from the lounge. One tweep says, “what a man can do a woman can do better…is it no longer a thing?” One tweep says these types of situations make a person wish that he was married to a feminist. The tweep says, “It’s moments like this you wish you married a feminist.” One tweep says, “The one [who heard the] noise [first] must go [and] check…”
One tweep says, “You deserve a seat in Parliament…” One tweep went on to say that she bought weapons to protect the children, her and her man. The tweep says, “I had to buy myself phafa, pepper spray, Taser gun, oukappie [knife] amd molamu, to protect myself, the kids, him and the car, items in the house, [because] when I hear things, I should go check it out…” Some of the tweeps went on to say that it was his responsibility as a man to go check if there was any danger.
