House robbery suspect arrested: Port Elizabeth

Accurate description of suspects by the complainant and swift response of Walmer police resulted in the immediate arrest of a house robbery suspect during the early hours of this morning, 27/09.

It is alleged that at about 02:40, the complainant and his shop assistant were sleeping in a shack attached to the shop in Pine Street in Overbaakens when the shack door was kicked opened.  Two males armed with knives entered the shack and demanded money and keys to the shop.  The suspects took two cell phones.  The one suspect opened the shop and took five cartons of cigarettes and cash.  Both suspects then ran off.

Immediate response by police led to the arrest of a 33-year-old suspect who was found at the corner of the street.  Both cell phones were found in his possession.

He was detained on a charge of house robbery. A further arrest is imminent.  He is expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth magistrates’ court on Monday, 28/09.
