A Hawks’ Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB) and Crime Intelligence operation has led to the arrest of a 25 year old suspect and the recovery of drugs valued at more than R8.9 million after a swoop in Somerset West.
The officers were taking part in an intelligence disruptive operation after information was obtained that narcotics were clandestinely being kept inside a storeroom. The team found heroin, tik and mandrax including a handgun. A vehicle reportedly belonging to the apprehended suspect was also seized.
The suspect is expected to appear at the Somerset West Magistrate’s Court tomorrow to face the alleged charges of dealing in drugs.
The Hawks National Head, Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya has applauded the arrest and discovery by the multidisciplinary team adding that the identification and seizure of the drugs demonstrated the police commitment to reducing the availability of dangerous drugs in and around Cape Town.
