Grade 10 Girl Suspended For Assaulting Grade 9 Boy. On Thursday a learner from a school in West Rand was suspended by the Gauteng Department of Education.

On Thursday a learner from a school in West Rand was suspended by the Gauteng Department of Education. The  grade 10 girl was suspended immediately for allegedly physically assaulting a grade 9 boy. The event occurred at Hoerskool Jan Viljoen in Randfontein after the two learners were done writing exams on Tuesday.

This was after the video recording of the event made rounds on the internet. In the video recording, the grade 10 girl was seen beating up the grade 9 boy, the two students are both 16 years of age. The Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson, Steve Mabona, says the instance is unfortunate. “It is unfortunate that the incident happened at the time when learners are busy with their year-end examinations. We strongly condemn any misdemeanour in schools, which could lead to serious action being taken against a learner,” says Steve Mabona.

The Gauteng Department of Education states that has called a psychosocial group to give the needed assistance to the people that were impacted by the instance that happened. The school governing body would be responsible in delivering the delivery process in due time, according to the Gauteng Department of Education. The teachers and principals were also asked to respond in good manner when these types of instances are being reported to them. “Ignoring these reports makes the victim feel more vulnerable and subjected to secondary trauma of adults who show a cavalier attitude,” says the Gauteng Department of Education.
