The family of Vusi Mgiqwa, a murdered car guard, is supposedly prepared to take R50 000 as reimbursement from his supposed killer. According to Sowetan Live, Jabulile, the sister of Vusi Mgiqwa acknowledged that the family had a meeting with Lukas van der Merwe’s legal representatives. The representatives proposed to give them R50 000 for the life of the late car guard.
“The proposal that was put was that even if the guy spends the rest of his life in jail we would still be left with nothing and yet we have lost Vusi for good,” says the sister. The car guard passed away in hospital in 2018 from the injuries he had after Lukas van der Merwe punched him during a disagreement they had over parking outside a restaurant in Springs. Vusi was then unconscious after he fell on his head.
The car guard was supposedly the primary breadwinner in the family. According to Sowetan Live reports, Lukas van der Merwe had his legal representatives meet with the family in August so they could offer the R50 000 reimbursement as a part of an appeal bargain. The proposal is now given given to the Gauteng director of public prosecutions for analysis.
