SAPS efforts to deal with Trio Crimes continue to yield results. This was again realised with the arrest of a 34-year-old suspect at Mokhethi Locality, Sterkspruit on 14 October 2020 who has been linked to two (2) burglary incidents.
It is alleged that two (2) business burglary incidents were reported to the police, one at the local spares workshop and another at a tavern. Detectives assigned to the case, Sgt Nomagugu Qhuqha, Const Jimmy Phakamela and Cst Cwayita Mbuli followed the leads which led to the arrest of the suspect and the identification of the stolen property by the business owners. The stolen goods to the value of R50 000-00 were seized from the residence of the suspect.
The suspect will be profiled to ascertain if he cannot be linked to other similar crimes in the Sterkspruit and surrounding policing areas.
The suspect will appear in the Sterkspruit District Court on 16 October 2020 on business burglary charges.
The acting District Commissioner Brigadier Rudolph Adolph commended the members on the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the stolen property. “This arrest will make an impact on the business burglaries as there is a possibility that the suspect could be linked to more incidents reported in the Sterkspruit policing area”, he said.
In a separate and unrelated incident, K9 members attached to the Operational Command Centre (OCC) and Visible Police members recovered a suspected stolen vehicle and arrested two (2) suspects aged, 27 and 31 in the early hours of the morning today, 15 October 2020.
Members received information on a Mahindra vehicle that was allegedly stolen during a house robbery at Beacon Bay on 12 October 2020.
The vehicle was spotted about 10 km out of town Joe Gqabi (Aliwal North) and the driver of the vehicle tried to speed when he noticed the SAPS members. Members then gave chase and the vehicle came to a standstill after hitting a wall of a local business. The two (2) suspects were immediately arrested and the vehicle recovered.
The suspects will appear in the Aliwal North Magistrates Court on 16 October 2020 on possession of suspected stolen property and reckless and negligent driving charges.
