Department Of Home Affairs Slams Cancellation Rumours Of Green Identity Book. There have been rumours that the Department of Home Affairs is discontinuing green barcoded Identity books.

There have been rumours that the Department of Home Affairs is discontinuing green barcoded Identity books. However, the department went on social media to deny the discontinuation of the green barcoded Identity books. A picture was of what seemed to be information from the department of Home Affairs made rounds on the internet.

The information stated that Identity documents would be cancelled from the first of April. The department tweeted on the government twitter accounted saying, “[Fake News] Take Note of fake news regarding the discontinuation of the Green barcoded ID! The [Home Affairs] has not announced any plans to discontinue the Green ID Book!” However, this was not the first time these fake news made rounds. Near the on 2017 it was stated that the 31st of March is the cancellation date for green Identity documents.

Even though the green identity documents termination news made rounds on social media, tweeps were hell bent on not using the green identity document. Some did it because they felt that the queues at Home Affairs are too long. One tweep says, “Home affairs must come at the comfort of my own home and give me that smart card. I’m not going there. The government must arrest me 1st” One tweep says, “Team Green book, until home affairs services improve and its free to get the smart card…”
