The 2015 Bombardier Global 6000 has been seized due to the Guptas defaulting on their loans from the export-import bank, Export Development Canada. The bank loaned the family an estimate of R459 million for the private jet. The Gupta family has allegedly loan defaulted in October, they were reportedly set to pay R322 at the time. In February 2018, Export Development Canada applied that the airplane be grounded because it feared that Ajay Gupta might use the plane to flee from the South African justice as there was an arrest warrant for him.
The plane has given the bank an issue because the tracker was deactivated, giving them issues with finding the whereabouts of the aircraft. The bank also issued asked people globally to help them look for the plane. The Guptas have been in a lot of hot water with the law in South Africa since its landing at the Waterkloof Air Force base. The family has also been linked to several politicians such as former president Jacob Zuma and Hlaudi Motsoeneng, according to reports.
