A Twitter user went on the social media platform to speak about the sweet gesture that her boyfriend did for her. The boyfriend gave her money, R500, as part of her girlfriend allowance. However, some people feel as if the girlfriend allowance that she got was not something to be proud of.
One tweep says, “Girlfriend allowance is R3000 a week as a starter. Stop underestimating yourself.” One tweep says, “That R500 wouldn’t last me for 2 hours.” One tweep says R500 is for airtime. “Your bf is not fair…a mere R500 to buy airtime. He was suppose to transfer R5k not R500,” says the tweep. One tweep says, “…you’re referring to R500 as girlfriend allowance?” The rest of Black Twitter came to the defence of the lady.
One tweep says, “In a country where the minimum wage is R3500, some of you guys are shading a girl getting R500 from her boyfriend? These stats are only applied when it’s time to complain about the government.” One tweep says, “R500 can buy food, print CVs, pay for transport, etc but on twitter it’s nothing. I fear twitter…” One tweep noted the R600 Uber issue that recently happened. The tweep says, “Last week you were all fighting because you can’t afford R600 for transport, today you’re trolling the girl’s R500 girlfriend allowance.”
