PARKTOWN – Police in Gauteng have launched a search for unknown suspects who were allegedly driving in three vehicles on Tuesday, 08 December 2020, two VW Polo’s and a Mercedes Benz with unknown registration numbers. This follows the fatal shooting of three men whose identity police cannot disclose or confirm at this stage. The deceased were found shot and killed in a white Toyota bakkie belonging to a security company. The driver was injured and taken to hospital.

On Tuesday afternoon, 08 December 2020, police responded to a complaint of a shooting in progress between  police and armed suspects believed to be behind the earlier fatal shooting of the three security officers in Kempton Park.

The joint team, comprising of SAPS and EMPD members attending to the complaint, pursued the suspects’ VW Polo from Kempton Park up to Kanna Street in Benoni. The suspects were eventually cornered in Beach Street, Northmead Extension 4 following an exchange of gunfire with the police. Two suspects were fatally wounded.  The third suspect, who was the driver, was wounded and taken to hospital where he is under police guard.

During the arrest, police recovered two AK 47 rifles from the suspects’ vehicle.

The motive for the shooting is yet to be determined.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have information that could lead to the apprehension of the other suspect(s) is urged to contact their nearest police station or to call the SAPS Crime Stop number 08600 10111. All information will be treated with the strictest confidentiality.
