FREE STATE – Operational readiness of members around Lejweleputswa District policing precincts led to the arrest of about 138 people who transgressed the various laws since Friday 20 November 2020 to Sunday 22 November 2020. These successes were realized through intense operations put in place for safer festive season to ensure criminals do not operate in our various communities.

Amongst the arrested, majority was in for drinking in public and drunkenness with about 75 people arrested for those crimes. Followed by those who transgressed the Disaster Management Act, especially those who failed to be confined to their places of residences during curfew with about 20 people arrested.

Others were apprehended for cases ranging from assault common, assault with intention to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, rape, possession of dangerous weapons, possession of drugs, intimidation, driving without a driver’s license, culpable homicide, selling liquor without a license and other Road Traffic Act offenses.

The Provincial Commissioner and management is making a clarion call to all community members to approach this festive season with cognizance of the fact that they have an important role to play to curb crime. “It is very clear that alcohol consumption is the main contributor to our crime, said the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane.

“Moreover, we still have a number of people who do not take COVID-19 Regulations into serious consideration. We will keep on ensuring that Disaster Management Act is observed by arresting those who disregard it as we do with other laws of the Republic in accordance to our Constitutional Mandate,” concluded Lt Gen Motswenyane.
