CAPE TOWN – Five suspects are due to appear in court after they were arrested in possession of stolen property in Klipfontein Mission Station in Crossroads.

The members were on patrol when they saw a group of people running away carrying clothing items and a truck was parked on the road. When the police spoke with the driver of the truck he informed them that he was hijacked while coming from the Browns Farm area. Police followed up on the suspects, searched the identified houses and recovered the clothing items looted from the truck. The suspects, mostly women, were arrested with clothing items belonging to one of the retail shops.

The suspects aged 65, 54, 53, 19, 19 and 18 are due to appear in Philippi Magistrate’s Court on 18 November 2020 for the possession of stolen property.

Meanwhile, nine suspects appeared in Athlone Magistrate’s Court yesterday, 16 November 2020, facing charges of murder, possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition and possession of a hijacked vehicle.

Eight suspects aged between 16 and 22 were arrested on Friday, 13 November 2020 sitting in a Toyota Hilux LDV in Boys Town in Crossroads. The vehicle was reportedly hijacked in Manenberg. When police spotted the vehicle it was fitted with a false registration number plate.

Another suspect, aged 29 is facing charges of murder and possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition. The suspect was arrested by members who were passing Nyanga Terminus on Saturday night when they heard gunshots and saw the suspect running towards a Toyota Avanza. He was arrested just after committing the murder where a 38-year-old succumbed.

A firearm with no serial number and ammunition was found in the suspect’s possession. The driver of the vehicle was also arrested but later released.

The members were applauded for their vigilance.
