POLOKWANE – The South African Police Service in Limpopo have effected numerous arrests during the ongoing parallel operations that were conducted by the SAPS Limpopo Highway Patrol Team (LHP) and the SAPS Polokwane Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU in all the Districts.

Four(04) suspects aged between 23 and 31 were arrested and recovered illicit cigarettes, ten(10) motor vehicles with the estimated value of over R2m, reported to be stolen and hijacked at various locations.

A 26-year-old suspect was arrested yesterday, by the Limpopo Highway Patrol Team (LHP) in the Bela-Bela Policing area for allegedly selling illicit cigarettes at Tambo drive.

He was arrested after the police received information from members of the community about a local Supermarket that was selling illicit cigarettes and quickly rushed to the place. Upon arrival, the premise was searched and 08 cartons of illicit cigarettes were seized.

Meanwhile, another information was followed about a white Volkswagen vehicle that was travelling along the N1 North heading to Polokwane. The motor vehicle was pulled off the road, searched and tested. The preliminary police investigations indicated that the car was reported stolen in Whiteriver in the Mpumalanga Province, last week Monday.

In addition, two other suspects were arrested by the Polokwane VCIU and nine (09) motor vehicles recovered by the police in all the Districts. Some of the vehicles were found abandoned and one suspect was arrested in Westenburg policing area outside Polokwane for possession of suspected stolen vehicle that was recovered with assistance from a Tracking company. The Opel Corsa was reportedly stolen last month in the Gauteng province, Pretoria Central.

The suspects will appear before different Magistrate Courts throughout the Province soon.
