The Police in Rietfontein are investigating a case of murder following the death if a 60-year-old man on 30 October 2020. It is alleged that the victim was stabbed by a 28-year-old suspect during an argument. He was declared dead on the scene.

On another incident, a 67-year-old man was arrested at Kanoneiland for stabbing his brother to death. On Friday evening, the two brothers allegedly embroiled in an argument which led to the suspect stabbing his 53-year-old brother to death. The suspect was arrested at the scene after the victim was certified dead.

On another separate incident, 30-year-old man was arrested in Deben for the murder of a 40-year-old woman. It is alleged that the two had an argument and the suspect stabbed the victim on the neck. She died on the scene and the suspect was arrested.

Meanwhile, two suspects aged 38 and 46 years old were arrested at Kathu for theft of copper cable.

It is alleged that, the security company received a message about a power failure and upon investigating he found the suspects in possession of copper cable which they had cut from the power supply. Police were called and the two were arrested.

All arrested suspects are expected to appear before their respective jurisdiction of court soon.

The SAPS Northern Cape has noted with concern that most murders occur after alcohol consumption which resulted in arguments. The public is urged to consume alcohol responsibly and not to resort to violence but rather find amicable solutions to resolve their problems.
