Panyaza Lesufi Bashes Schools For Supposedly Declining To Help Out The Homeless. The homeless people in Gauteng are being put in tents at a number of sites.

The homeless people in Gauteng are being put in tents at a number of sites. This is after numerous public schools with boarding areas supposedly declined to let the poor board while this lockdown goes on, according to Panyaza Lesufi, the Gauteng acting social development MEC . The government has been overwhelmed by the numbers of homeless people in Pretoria that need housing and care while the lockdown is ongoing.

About 2000 people that live on the street have been gathered up by the law enforcement officials and then taken to the Caledonian Stadium since the lockdown started which started a number of issues. The issues included the shortage of food and overcrowding of people. The government is pursuing other alternatives to ensure that some of the vulnerable are assisted with housing. On Wednesday, Panyaza Lesufi went to go see the Lukas van den Berg Sports Ground in Pretoria West, alongside Mpho Nawa, the Tshwane head administrator. This is where 370 people have been moved from the Caledonian grounds.

They have been given tents that have every single thing that they need such a mattress, blanket, food and toiletries. Due to winter approaching and the lockdown in place, the first choice for government was the public school boarding areas, since the schools were closed. However, the MEC says the Student Governing Bodies of the schools had declined to help the homeless during the national emergency. Panyaza Lesufi says, “It’s a shame that we’ve to place fellow South Africans in tents while public assets like boarding schools are standing empty because self centred SGBs are refusing to open up schools to accommodate our people. Is it because homeless people are half human being?”
