Will People Get To See Their Favourite Television Shows During This Lockdown? The national lockdown is set to happen in Midnight on Thursday.

The national lockdown is set to happen in Midnight on Thursday. It has also been said that some of the South African television shows have been put on hold as the lockdown happens. The president of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, announced the lockdown on Monday. He also stated that the services that will be open are essential services such as petrol stations, ATM and supermarkets.

SABC 1’s Skeem Saam and SABC 2’s Muvhango are some of the shows that have halted shooting before the lockdown this week. The producers of both shows have spoken to ‘TshisaLive’, explaining that the health and safety of their staff is crucial to them. Nthabiseng Tau, the Muvhango senior creative director, says the filming of the show was stopped hours after president Cyril Ramaphosa spoke on Tuesday. The senior creative director says, “We have shot a couple of scenes in the morning, to kind of safeguard where we are as a production, in terms of deliverables and to have things that are on air. We closed [Tuesday], so actors and crew are no on call as of when they wrapped yesterday.

Nthabiseng Tau says the show would still be on air as they have two months’ worth of footage already. Skeem Saam has stated that their workers would be part of the citizens that are taking part of the 21 days lockdown. They also stated that their show would still be on air during the lockdown.
