The police are on the hunt for cash-in-transit robbers. The robbers have allegedly killed two Hawks officials in a firearm battle. The event happened in the North West on Thursday. Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi, the Hawks spokesperson, spoke about the loss of the death of the two officials.
The Hawks spokesperson says the three members allegedly from the cash-in-transit robbery were killed and four members were apprehended during the bullet exchange. The national commissioner has requested that the all the police trace teams bring the perpetrators to justice. Hangwani Mulaudzi says representatives of the Special Task Force intercepted three suspects near Mahikeng who were in three cars.
“The armed gang had shot and forced a cash security van off the road. The suspects were confronted as they blew open the van. The suspects retaliated and took off in different directions. In their attempt to escape, two of the vehicle faced off with members of the Technical Operations Management Section. During the shootout, Detective Warrant Officer Delen Grobler was fatally shot,” says the Hawks spokesperson. On the day, one of the suspects was apprehended at a hospital in Johannesburg. Some of the other suspects were intercepted at by the representative of the Technical Operations Management Section at Coligny in the North West. The suspects fought back with AK47 rifles, fatally hurting Detective Sergeant Wynand Herbst.
