The supposedly infected 38-year-old man was said to have returned from Italy with his wife on the 1st of March. The man has been isolating himself from the 3rd of March, the doctor who checked on him has also been isolated because he made contact.
Black Twitter reacted to the issue of the first case of Coronavirus in South Africa. Some of the tweeps threw humour in the issue of the Coronavirus. Filmmaker Ofentse Mwase says, “All because that one lady refused to take this man to Northcliff in 5 seconds…” One tweep says, “Now people who never travelled anywhere will die because of these traveling rich people. One tweep says he might just pass away as a single man.
As some people joked about the issue others took it seriously. Some people were disappointed that the man was supposedly not swabbed at the airport when they landed. One tweep says, The guy has contracted the Corona Virus came back from Italy, didn’t get swabbed at the airport walked around in South Africa for days with it and after going to the doctor on his own was told that he has the virus. So much for the government being prepared.” One tweep says, “I honestly don’t understand why the airports in South Africa are not testing international arrivals for [Corona Virus], people are travelling to countries affected and they just land and carry on with life like there’s no virus…”
