The South African police Service has asked parents to lead their children to being safe and responsible social media users. The warning was a reply to a video recording of three boys from Pretoria doing the challenge titled the skull breaker challenge.
The challenge has three people, with two people in each side and one person in the middle. The people on the side know about it but the person in the middle is totally clueless as what is going to happen. The people then each jump, with the person in the middle being the last one. The two people on the side then trip the person in the middle once they jump up. The social media platform, TikTok, has taken off the content that relates to the challenge. It has stated that the platform does not allow content that encourages, promotes or glorifies dangerous challenges that could lead to injury.
A 16-year-old Brazilian teenager has passed away because of injuries after being pranked using the skull breaker challenge, according to CB Brazil. Thailand has already categorised the challenge as a crime that has a sentence of over two years. Thanin Vejjapinan, the head of the Thailand-based Prasat Neurological Institute, has asked parents to speak to their children about the risks of the challenge. “Warn your children not to play this dangerous game and stop sharing its videos. Most people doing it are teenagers who don’t fully understand its risks.” The video recording of the Pretoria boys video has been removed on social media by the owner of the account.
