Ambulance Assistant Temporarily Blinded By Robbers In KwaZulu-Natal. A paramedic assistant was blind for some time after he was sprayed with a liquid substance during the robbery of the ambulance.

A paramedic assistant in KwaZulu-Natal was blind for some time after he was sprayed with a liquid substance during the robbery of the ambulance. The incident occurred at Ntuzuma E section, north of Durban on Monday. Craig Grindell, the Netcare 911 managing director, acknowledged that the event occurred when the paramedics were busy with a patient.

The Netcare 911 managing director says, “As Netcare 911 emergency medical services practitioners were loading the patient into the ambulance, they were approached by two people who demanded they hand over their possessions, and then fled the scene.” Another Netcare 911 ambulance came to their aid and took both the patient and ambulance staff to a hospital for treatment purposes. The ambulance assistant’s vision is back to normal, according to Craig Grindell.

The patient and the staff are also getting counselling due to the crime that was committed. “It is disappointing that emergency medical services are targeted while providing communities with life-saving emergency medical services. However, thankfully in this case, no serious injuries were sustained,” says Craig Grindell.
