Minister Of Basic Education Responds To Questions About New 2020 Curriculum. The new “Comprehensive Sexuality Education” curriculum that the Department of Basic Education wants to introduce has been having tongues wagging.

The new “Comprehensive Sexuality Education” curriculum that the Department of Basic Education wants to introduce has been having tongues wagging. Educators have also threatened to protest against teaching the new curriculum to students. The issue that most people had with the new curriculum for 2020 was the explicitness level of it.

The curriculum that is reportedly set to be introduced in 2020 also got question from the Democratic Alliance’s Member of Parliament, Nomsa Marchesi. The Member of Parliament has asked if the parents have the option of declining from letting the learners learn the new curriculum being given in Life orientation. She also questioned as to what would occur with the educators who decline to teach the curriculum to the learners. The curriculum has different levels where it speaks about private parts to speaking about rape scenarios.

The Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga says that every pupil in public schools get set provisions based on CAPS. She also states that parents have the right to pull out of the curriculum, given that they can give an alternative curriculum that meets the standards of CAPS for competence. The meaning of an alternative curriculum that meets the standards of CAPS are still set to unravel. However, educators have no right to pull out as it is needed of them to distribute the curriculum based on CAPS. She says that since the launching of Comprehensive Sexuality Education modules in 2000, the Department of Basic education has been in a number of consultative moments with members of education at the Provincial and National point.
