Businessman Patrice Motsepe’s foundation, Motsepe Foundation, has contributed R100 million for job creation and skills training. Patrice Motsepe is no stranger to donating. The latest contribution is a reply to the unemployment status in the country, with the 29% unemployment level.
It has also come as a reply to the 55% youth unemployment level. Patrice Motsepe says the funding will be managed via 33 religious and faith based organisations that are near his heart, as they have been working closely for several years. The organisations that are involved in the funding include the SA Hundu Sabha, Jamiat Ulama SA, Zion Christian Church and the Greek Orthodox Church.
The Motsepe Foundation will aid the fund monetarily until more financial assistance can be brought into the funding. The businessman says the funding will stick to global best practice and good governance. “I’ve got a project that I believe will create a number of jobs, that job I must give to the advisory council which is like a board and the advisory council will give an application to where jobs and skills are and evaluate whether this is a job-creating project that should be funded,” says Patrice Motsepe. However, some people were not excited by the news.
One tweep says, “[I’m] so worried [about] this 100M…If our government wasn’t corruct we wouldn’t be having this high rate of unemployment…Let’s just pray that it doesn’t [land] in the wrong hands…” One tweep says, “That R100m is already allocated we’ll be lucky if we see a cent of it. He can’t let government be in charge of it.” One tweep says, “With all the corruption and greed in this country, I doubt that this money is going to go towards creating jobs.”
