Air Zimbabwe Plane Allegedly Confiscated At OR Tambo International Airport For Debt. Airports Company of South Africa has allegedly confiscated an Air Zimbabwe airplane because of debt.

Airports Company of South Africa has allegedly confiscated an Air Zimbabwe airplane because of debt. TimesLive reports that insiders at Air Zimbabwe say that an airplane, a Boeing 767-200, was confiscated at the OR Tambo Airport at Johannesburg on Wednesday. This is reportedly after Air Zimbabwe was suspended from employing the airstrip because it allegedly didn’t pay its debts.

The airplane company is due to pay Airports Company of South Africa for parking, landing and the service fees for passengers for flights to Johannesburg. The suspension ended up in Air Zimbabwe not functioning its flights of Joburg-Harare on Wednesday. This also resulted in the airline passengers not being able to travel, some of them were given space on other airplanes. The confiscation coerced the airline to cancel the Harare-Johannesburg flight on Thursday. This also includes the flights within Zimbabwe.

Tafadzwa Mazonde, the Air Zimbabwe spokesperson, acknowledged the seizure of the airplane and says that the officials were communicating with the Airports Company of South Africa in taking out the airplane. The Air Zimbabwe spokesperson says, “It’s temporary suspension over cumulative debt. We are in discussion with our shareholder and we are hopeful that we will find a solution.” The airline has had issues apart from the current one such as its airplane confiscated by creditors because it supposedly neglected its debts.
