A traditional healer was apprehended for allegedly sexually assaulting two ladies who blacked out after drinking a traditional mixture. On Thursday, the authorities in KwaZulu-Natal state the event allegedly happened during a supposed cleansing ceremony. The healer was apprehended after two cases were stated in August and September at the police station in KwaDabeka.
Jay Naicker, police spokesperson, said the first person alleged that she encountered the traditional healer on a taxi heading to Port Shepstone. The lady reportedly, according to Jay Naicker, stated that he came to the victim and told her that he could see a dark cloud over her family. The police spokesperson says, “While on route, the traditional healer approached the victim, [telling] her that he could see that her family is under a dark cloud and perform some sort of a traditional cleansing ceremony.” The woman thus acknowledged and a day was set for him to see her at her home in Ixopo. When he got to the place he did a cleansing event.
The woman’s family then allegedly accepted that he should go with her to Durban for a cleansing at the sea. A cleansing event allegedly took place at the South Beach in Durban before they both went to his home in Clermont. That’s where the woman was then allegedly given a traditional mixture. Jay Naicker says, “It was at his home where the victim alleges that she was given a traditional concoction to drink by the suspect. She felt dizzy and passed out. When she woke up later, she realised that she had been raped.” According to the police spokesperson, another lady stated her case in September, saying that the healer allegedly came to her home in Port Shepstone to do a home cleansing event.
He then allegedly told the family that he had to do another cleansing event on the woman. He went to the South Beach, where he did another cleansing on her. “It is in the house where the lady was also given a concoction to drink, after which she blacked out. When she woke up she realised she had been raped,” Jay Naicker told News24. The lady was allegedly locked in the house for multiple days, to which the incident resumed. The woman then got the chance to get out and tell the police about the instance, according to Jay Naicker. He is set to appear at the Magistrate’s Court in Pinetown on Friday, with two rape charges.
