A 6-year-old girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted by her neighbour in Mamelodi has slowly healed from surgery. The girl was allegedly assaulted on Saturday. She was sent to hospital after she suffered severe damage to her private parts.
The 6-year-old has started walking again on Wednesday after she went through surgery on Monday. ‘Not In My Name’ representative Themba Masango told News24 that the girl and her mother were terribly traumatised from the event. The lobby group has planned counselling for the mother and the child. ‘Not In My Name’ states that they have been in touch with the child’s family. The man is said to be a neighbour, with his own 3-month-old daughter. He allegedly said that he would buy a present for the child on the day of the incident.
The child was allegedly seen with the child on the day of the instance and the community didn’t suspect anything. Mo Senne from ‘Not In My Name’ says, “Hours later, he was seen by other community members carrying the child on his shoulder and they suspected nothing. The mother contends that, when she didn’t see her child, she assumed that she was playing with her other neighbour’s daughter. Much to her dismay, her child walked in holding treats and when she asked, in a state of confusion, she told her mother that the neighbour inserted something inside her then gave her treats afterwards.”
The mother thus then examined the 6-year-old and found a panty full of blood. The father also reportedly said that when the official came to apprehend the man they found sheets that were had blood stains, according to Mo Senne. He also allegedly threatened to kill the girl if she told people about the incident. He allegedly held a pair of scissors to her neck. The lobby group went to Mamelodi police station in Mamelodi East to request that attempted murder and kidnapping be included in the man’s charges. The 26-year-old neighbour is set to appear at the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
