Nomvelo Makhanya is a woman we have seen on the etv show ‘Scandal!’ since she was a teenager. She has also shown how she has grown mentally. She has grown to be one of the few people in the entertainment industry who has had the ability to talk about her mental wellbeing to the public. In 2017, the actress told TshisaLive about her battle with depression, anxiety and bipolar.

Since she spoke about her mental health diagnoses, she has been speaking out to help other people who are in the similar situation as hers. “When I visited my psychiatrist he told me that he wanted me to book myself into hospital the next day. I was hesitant. I kept thinking. “Dr, I need to get back to work tomorrow,” says the actress. She went on to say that she was scared that nobody would support her through her journey.

“I was also scared that people wouldn’t understand and that I would be away with no support. I felt like I was drowning and felt like every breath I was waging a war against myself,” says Nomvelo Makhanya. The actress is happy with where she is now and she has announced on her social media account that she’s seeking to help others through her Mental Talk seminar, where she’ll have other celebs as speakers. She says that she wants to teach and strengthen the people with mental health issues. Other celebs who have gone public about their mental health issues include Bonnie Mbuli, who talked about her fight with depression, and Lalla Hiriyama, who was open about her anxiety disorder.
