SA Police To Wear Body Cams. The South African Police Service will be giving police officers body cameras to help them combat crime better.

The South African Police Service will be giving police officers body cameras to help them combat crime better. The spokesperson of the Department of Police says the cameras are on the schedule of the South African Police Service’s higher management. The department has not made a distribution date of the body cams because they are waiting for more details about how the funds will be given.

The cameras will be used to protect the police officers, however, it’s not limited to that only. “They will also be used for data capturing as the world is moving in the direction of the 4th industrial revolution and to advance policing,” says the spokesperson who spoke to Business Tech. The Johannesburg Metro Police Department has also started initiating a body feature called body lights. The body lights are the same as the police lights that are on top of a police vehicle.

The body lights will be used by traffic officials and, officers who are part of roadblocks and stop searches. The feature is mostly for the Johannesburg Metro Police Department. Luyanda Longe, the spokesperson of Johannesburg Public Safety, says the lights will be mounted on the officers’ shoulders. The lights will also have blue and red flares. The spokesperson says the lights were given over in December and that the officials will wear the lights in the evening times, so that they can be seen.
