Centane Regional Magistrate’s Court convicted and sentenced 45-year-old Mkhawuleli Gobe to undergo twenty two (22) years imprisonment for raping an eleven (11) year old girl. The accused was sentenced on Thursday, 28 March 2019 at Centane Regional Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that the victim was sent by her mother to a shop on 28 June 2015 at about 16h00 to buy bread. She came across the accused who grabbed her to the nearby bushes where she was raped. The accused warned the victim not to tell her mother that he raped her. He promised to buy the victim a cellphone.
The victim broke her silence to her mother. The rape took place at Mbokothwane Locality, Ngcizela Village, Centane. A case of rape was registered at Centane Police Station. The case was handed over to Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) for further investigation. The accused was traced and arrested.
Acting Butterworth Cluster Commander, Colonel Ncedo Ngwendze has welcomed the hefty sentence imposed on the accused. He praised the investigating officer of the case who properly investigated the case.
